About The Photographer

Let me introduce myself! My name is Emily Ngumba. I have adored animals of all types since I learned to walk and over the last 28 years, we have owned horses, dogs, cats, fish, turtles, hamsters, and more. About 10 years ago, I went to class for photography and photoshop and loved it! I enjoyed minimalist photography and took pleasure in recording the “details”. But there’s a saying that sometimes you get so focused on doing what you like that you forget what really matters. It hit me in the chest like a ton of bricks when I realized that my two childhood pets, my partners in crime, my best friends crossed the rainbow bridge and I didn’t have one single frame worthy photo. With the help of a friend, it was then I realized that I could merge something I was good at (photography) with something that I loved (animals). And just like that, Lake Norman Furtography was born. Of course, as much as I love the name FURtography and how much it symbolizes what my business is all about, it also brings into view the blaring fact that I am a country gal with dirt on my shoes, hay in my hair, and a heavy southern accent. While I am working to improve my skills daily, I also keep busy by spending time with my wonderful husband and our two small children who are growing up to love animals just as much as I do. My heart swells to hear the youngest say her first word, “Kitty” and I know we must be doing something right!
